BJMP Catbalogan City celebrates Community Relations Service Month

To cap off the Community Relations Service Month of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) with the theme “Serbisyo-Publikong Tapat, Nagmamalasakit at May Integridad, Tagumpay ng Bawat Komunidad”, an invitation to City Councilor Hon. Stephany Uy-Tan was graciously accepted as she visited the now-serving Catbalogan City Jail at Barangay Lagundi, this City last June 28, 2012.

Councilor Uy-Tan along with several Sangguniang Kabataan Chairs, WARAYA members and youth leaders gave out lunch packs and hygiene kits to forty (40) inmates and several grocery items for their usage and was assisted by SJ04 Alfie Paraiso, Jail Warden.

The said visit was an opportunity for the officials of BJMP to disclose to the City Government their concerns and requests to ensure the safety and security of the facility, and an opportunity for City Councilor Uy-Tan to reach out to Catbalogan inmates and to extend her wholehearted support to the office.

The Catbalogan City Jail managed by BJMP was only opened in 2011 and is currently holding forty (40) inmates and seven (7) BJMP Officers and Jail Guards.


PP12 turns-over Medical Kits and Sports Equipment to City

On the afternoon of June 27 at City Hall Lobby, representatives from the US Navy dropped off several boxes of medical equipment and supplies intended for the City Health Office as well as several sports equipment for the Local Youth Development Council of Catbalogan City as part of the Pacific Partnership 2012.

Receiving in behalf of the City Government of Catbalogan were City Vice Mayor Art Sherwin L. Gabon, First Councilor Stephany Uy-Tan, Liga ng mga Barangay Federation President Edward M. Uy and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) City Federation President Dexter M. Uy. For the sports equipment, these were received by Hon. Dexter M. Uy being the SK Federation President along with several youth representatives of different school organizations and community organizations.

Medical supplies donated include uretheral catheter, bandage gauze, sterile gloves, stethoscopes, syriges, face masks, and other supplies. Sports equipment on the other hand include basketball, volleyball, badminton rackets, baseball bats and caps, sports nets, and other sports items.

2012, an invitation was received by the Local Youth Development Council of Catbalogan City for a scheduled ship tour on June 27, 2012 inside the USNS Mercy (T-AH 19), one of the two modern hospital ships in the US Navy.

The Local Youth Development Council (LYDC) of Catbalogan City is the sole advisory council in all matters related to young people. It is composed of Sangguniang Kabataan Chairs of the different barangays of the city; youth-led and youth-serving organizations; school student councils; and several community organizations.

Facilitating the trip and the group of the Catbalogan contingent were First Councilor Stephany Uy-Tan and Liga ng mga Barangay Federation President Edward M. Uy. Sangguniang Kabataan City Federation President Dexter M. Uy were part of the group along with members of Waray-Waray Youth Advocates, students of Samar State University, Samar College and several young people.

Continuous involvement of young people in various matters is very evident not only in Catbalogan City but in different organizations and agencies here and abroad.

City Mayor and Barangay Chairs meets with PP12 Representative


The City Government of Catbalogan thru City Mayor Coefredo T. Uy, being one of the recipients of the Pacific Partnership 2012 spearheaded by the United States of America recently met with Lt. Mark Poblete, Local HA/PH/NGO Coord / CDS 7 to receive invitation for the Closing Ceremony on June 28, 2012 at Calbayog City.
Several Barangay Chairs were earlier present at the Office of the City Mayor on a meeting when Lt. Poblete arrived for the said purpose. City Councilor Stephany Uy-Tan, being one of the Contact Persons of the activities in Catbalogan City for the mission facilitated the short courtesy call.

During the courtesy call, several activities that were earlier scheduled was finalized and revealed and these were the following: Ship Tour of Catbalogan Youth Delegates on June 27 at Calbayog City; and the Turn-over Ceremony of Medical Kits for the City Health’s Office and Sports Equipment for the Local Youth Development Council of Catbalogan City on June 27 at City Hall Lobby.

Medical Civic Action Programs (MEDCAP) Catbalogan City

The MEDCAP will include services on medical, dental, optometry, women’s health and general out-patient consultation. According to LCDR Weatherup, the Catbalogan MEDCAP will be from June 25 – 28 at the Silanga Elementary School, Barangay Silanga.

With the assistance of the City Health Office, the MEDCAP is set to cater at most 400 patients per day and will further be assisted by RN Heals nurses stationed at CHO as revealed by City Health Officer Dr. Tizon.

City Employees join Philippine Arbor Day

Pursuant to DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2012-70 dated April 17, 2012 with regards to Executive Order No. 24 last February 24, 2011 of His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III mandating the implementation of the National Greening Program (NGP) as government priority and relative to the celebration of Philippine Arbor Day every 25th of June by planting trees and ornamental plants and other forms of relevant activities, select employees of the City Government of Catbalogan planted seedlings at Barangay Lagundi, this city.

Said activity was participated in by Liga nga mga Barangay Federation President Hon. Edward M. Uy and City Councilor Hon. Stephany Uy-Tan along with the different Department Heads, Officers, and City Employees.

Coffee Seedlings were provided by the City Agriculture’s Office and the site where these seedlings were planted was near the Motorpool Station and the City Jail of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at Barangay Lagundi. Said treeplanting activity at the same location was a follow-up after a similar activity on 2010 during the Women’s Month Celebration.
