On October 08, 2012 right after the Flag Raising, a Disaster Preparedness Orientation was organized by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Catbalogan City.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the National Committee on the Filipino Family (NCFF) led the national celebration last September 22 – 30 dubbed as the National Family Week Celebration. The Family Week celebration started in 1992 thru Presidential Proclamation No. 60 signed on September 18, 1992. It seeks to strengthen family unity and relationships through meaningful celebration and promotion of Filipino values. The theme for this year is “Ensuring Work-Family Balance.”
Moreover, October 1 marks the official start of this year’s National Children’s Month with the theme, “Bright Child ay Siguraduhin, Responsableng Pamamahayag ay Palaganapin”. Presidential Proclamation No. 267 declared the month of October of every year as the National Children’s Month to emphasize the importance of the role of the child within the Filipino family and in nation building.
Also celebrated during the early week of October is the Elderly Filipino Week (EFW) pursuant to Proclamation No. 470 issued by former President Fidel V. Ramos on September 26, 1994 aimed at increasing public awareness on the different issues concerning the older persons’ sector. This year’s EFW theme “Nakatatanda: Sa Bisa ng RA 9994, May Dangal, Nagkakaisa, Buhay ay Gumiginhawa,” focuses on the contributions of Expanded Senior Citizens Act 2010 to the improvement of lives of older persons.
celebration of these various events, the City Government of Catbalogan through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) conducts the Parents’ Education Congress on October 03, 2012 at the Catbalogan City Plaza.
Families, being the most basic unit of our society is crucial and critical to all and any development of community. How parents raise their families will in turn affect the future of our nation, as children and young people are our future.
