EASTER is the greatest feast in the Christian calendar. On this Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
For Catholics, Easter Sunday comes at the end of 40 days of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving known as Lent.
Through spiritual struggle and self-denial, we have prepared ourselves to die spiritually with Christ on Good Friday, the day of His Crucifixion, so that we can rise again with Him in new life on Easter.
HOLY SATURDAY is the last day of Holy Week and ends the season of Lent. It is also known as the Vigil of Easter. The day is traditionally a time of reflection and waiting. The vigil stems back to when Jesus’ followers spent this day waiting after his crucifixion on Good Friday.
It is also known as the day when Roman governor Pontius Pilate instructed guards to be posted at the tomb to prevent Jesus’ followers from removing the body to claim that he had risen from the dead.
GOOD FRIDAY, the Friday before Easter Sunday, commemorates the Passion and Death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross. Good Friday is the second of the three days of the Easter Triduum.
Good Friday is a day of strict fasting and abstinence. Catholics who are over the age of 18 and under the age of 60 are required to fast, which means that they can eat only one complete meal and two smaller ones during

HOLY THURSDAY is the most complex and profound of all religious observances, saving only the Easter Vigil.
It celebrates both the institution by Christ himself of the Eucharist and of the institution of the sacerdotal priesthood (as distinct from the ‘priesthood of all believers’) for in this, His last supper with the disciples, a celebration of Passover, He is the self-offered Passover Victim, and every ordained priest to this day presents this same sacrifice, by Christ’s authority and command, in exactly the same way.
The Last Supper was also Christ’s farewell to His assembled disciples, some of whom would betray, desert or deny Him before
the sun rose again.

The International Women’s Day, last March 8, 2013, served as the vehicle for the launching of the City Government’s latest project, dubbed as “Women in Housing”, in partnership with the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) under its Local Community Mortgage Program (LCMP).
of the said occasion came in the form of a General Assembly for the beneficiaries belonging to
8 homeowners’ associations that are set to benefit from the said project. With most of the attendees being women, SHFC Visayas/Mindanao Representative Zenona Clemen a housing program is indeed a suitable venue wherein they can become active partners in good governance.
“As managers in their own right, they play an important role in maintaining a good household. A good household means a good community and a good community means a good municipality or city”, according to her.
With an Omnibus Commitment Line of PhP 48 Million to be released by the SHFC, the said undertaking is set to benefit more than 800 informal settlers dwelling in 8 urban poor sites in Catbalogan City that are currently privately owned.
Combined with a counterpart fund from the City Government, said amount will be used to buy off the properties from the landowners. With the said properties now government-owned, residents are given a more affordable payment scheme and a more comfortable payment period in order to obtain land titles.
Linking the event’s significance to this year’s Women’s Month theme, which is “Kababaihan: Gabay sa Pagtahak sa Tuwid na
Daan”, Ms. Clemen said that a housing program can serve as a perfect tool for involving women in good governance as it enables them to assert their rights through the process of availing themselves of housing benefits. By so doing, they also become a partner in the implementation of the government’s housing policies.
Engaging in an partnership with the SHFC is the most recent move taken by the City Government to address the most pressing problem being faced by Catbalogan’s urban poor sector pertaining to land tenure. This was further aggravated by landslides that occurred last, which prompted this local government to evacuate residents from their residences which are located in high-risk areas.
