In an effort to establish a more participative and inclusive form of governance, Mayor Stephany convenes civil society organizations (CSOs) representatives last September 27, 2013.

The said initiative was in accordance to the reorganization of local special bodies of The City Government of Catbalogan, wherein said CSOs will sit in as members of the said councils.

These include but not limited to the following: City Development Council, City Health Board, City School Board, City Nutrition Council, City Peace and Order Council, and others.

Their objectives include formally assembling men who will advocate against VAW, formulating actions for the involvement of men in the elimination of VAW, and forming partnerships and linkages to push for advocacy projects, among others.

In an effort to establish a transparent, inclusive and empowered governance, Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan personally visited the several finished and on-going infrastructure projects of The City Government of Catbalogan.

With the assistance of barangay officials, Mayor Step visited Barangays Cabugawan and San Roque last September 21, 2013.

Mayor Step inspects finished and ongoing barangay projects

As part of her commitment for a transparent governance, Mayor Step personally visited Barangays Old Mahayag and Iguid. to inspect the various finished and ongoing projects of thisadministration last September 21, 2013.

At Barangay Old Mahayag, from the pre-identified 25 toilets to be installed complete with bowls, septic tanks and drums, 35 septic tanks and drums have already been installed with only 10 more lacking toilet bowls to complete the set. Mayor Step is set to complete the lacking facilities to be taken from the Nutrition Program of the city.

At Barangay Iguid, four (4) concrete pathways have already been constructed and twenty-seven (27) toilets have been completed which fund allocation was taken from City Councilor Myla Cinco. Also, funding assistance from City Councilor Maxrose “Max” Pescos has provided two (2) stairways and slated for 2014 implementation, Councilor Max Pescos is set to provide 300×1.1/5 meters riprap.

These projects completed are set to be included in Mayor Step’s First 100 Days to be reported on October 08.

Mayor Step distributes educational assistance to scholars

Nearly 350 scholars from 17 barangays were present during the educational assistance distribution last September 21, 2013 at Catbalogan I Central Elementary School. Said city scholars were from Barangays Poblacion 01 to 13, Socorro, Munoz, Guindapunan, and San Pablo.

Through the assistance of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Hon. Stephany Uy-Tan personally handed over the cash assistance among the scholars present during the distribution of educational assistance.

Her personal commitment to the importance of education in securing a better future echoes from her slogan “Kan Mayor Step Uy-Tan, Asenso han Pamilya Edukasyon an Solusyon”, aimed at helping families by putting a child to school. From the former administration’s coverage to only until high school students, Mayor Step has started expanded the scholarship coverage to include college students. Her commitment to help deserving students to attend school and in the future be able to help their own families.

Lt. Commander Lowie A Palines of the Philippine Coast Guard paid courtesy call with Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan last September 19, 2013 along with other officials.

He assumed office as Catbalogan Phil Coast Guard Commander after replacing SG John Barrera who retired on December 31, 2012. Palines is also a chaplain of the Philippine Coast Guard.

The day’s drills and exercises simulated disaster scenarios like vehicular accidents and collapsed structures to give them an idea on how to respond and act in such cases.

These were also meant to teach them the value of teamwork and the importance of constant area assessment when conducting rescue operations. This is to ensure the safety not just of the victims but also that of the rescuers so that they can successfully conduct the rescue operation.
