On Tuesday (September 15, 2015), Catbalogan City Mayor Hon. Stephany Uy-Tan entered into an agreement with ODIN Energy Co., Ltd. ensuring mutual cooperation of both parties in planning for the construction and installation of an ODIN Wind Power Generator in the City.
The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) kick-started talks between the company and the LGU which will include the specifics of the project (total kW capacity, floor level), cost of construction, and possible joint ventures with other parties.
Also agreed upon is that ODIN Energy will provide the technology and turbines for the Wind Power Generator whilst Catbalogan LGU will provide the site of its construction.
ODIN Wind Power Generator, a tower-like structure, is an innovative technology which promises a more efficient way of harnessing wind energy compared to traditional ones.
Present at the signing for ODIN Energy was their Vice President Mr. Richard Jo who ensured that their company does not intend to profit from that project.
“Every peso we will earn will be reinvested in the city of Catbalogan,” said Mr. Jo.
Mr. Jo also reported that the testing of their wind turbine in Jeju Island was a success. They specifically chose the island because of its relatively similar conditions with Catbalogan as per their feasibility study on the City last July.
The Wind Power Generator is slated to be placed atop the new Catbalogan City Hall within Catbalogan’s Sky City Mega Project. Sky City is the LGU’s response to rapid urbanization, downtown congestion, and environmental threats the City is facing.
