City convenes Nutrition Council with strong support from various sectors

Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan has convened our City Nutrition Council (CNC) last March 23, 2017 at Twins Resto as part of their regular meeting.

CNC is mandated by the national government tasked mainly to formulate and implement local food and nutrition policies, plans and interventions for nutrition improvement as well as monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of our the City Plan of Action for Nutrition.

Members of this council are school heads of all district elementary, secondary schools, as well as concerned city department related to health and nutrition.

Catbaloganons organize Barangay Assemblies; Mayor Step reaches out

Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan visited Barangays Payao, Silanga, and 09 Poblacion among other barangays during their said assemblies last March 25, 2017.

By virtue of RA 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991 and by order of DILG Secretary Sueno under Memorandum Circular No. 2017-31, all barangays are mandated to conduct a “Barangay Assembly” at least twice a year to hear and discuss the semestral report of the barangay concerning its activities and finances as well as problems affecting the barangays.

Ini liwat an higayon para direkta magpakiana o manginsayod an mga kulop,” she emphasizes during her visit.

“This is part of our continued commitment to a not only a working government but also a listening government because through them, we are guided of what interventions be made to ease if not solve their problems from their perspective,” Mayor Step shares.

School Board convenes as school semester ends and new period commences

Last March 24, 2017, Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan has called for a meeting among the Local School Board (LSB) to get updates on all implementation in relation to education sector, as one of the priorities of her administration.
Our Local School Board (LSB) is a special body created by virtue of Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991 (LGC 91), whose duty is to allocate the Special Education Fund (SEF) to meet the supplementary needs of the local public school system.
Present were members of said board most especially our partners from the Division of Catbalogan headed by Sir Cristito Eco along with sectoral representatives as well as several departments from our city government.
We are very fortunate that through Sir Eco of the Catbalogan City Division whose vision is congruent to ours aimed at making our education services more accessible, available, affordable if not free to all our constituents.

Catbalogan’s GAD Council reconvenes before Women’s Month ends

As part of the 2017 Women’s Month celebration, Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan convened the City Gender and Development (GAD) Council on March 22, 2017 to update all council members as to the implementation of various programs, projects and activities.

Members of the GAD Council are concerned city departments as well as representatives from the academe, security sector, women’s organizations, young people, barangays, faith-based organizations, civil society groups, and marginalized sectors like PWD, senior citizens, and others.

Discussed as well during the said council meeting was the identified proposals for 2018 for consideration of the whole council in preparation for the budgeting process to commence this 2nd quarter of 2017.

The creation of GAD Council is anchored on Republic Act No. 9710, otherwise known as the Magna Carta of Women (MCW) wherein all local government unites shall adopt gender mainstreaming as a strategy to promote women’s human rights and eliminate gender discrimination in their systems, structures, policies, programs , processes, and procedures.

This year’s Women’s Month celebration is anchored on the theme “WE Make Change Work for Women”, which emphasizes that women should be active drivers in bringing about positive changes, and that they should also reap from development efforts.
