Tribu Katbalaugan arrives in Manila for Aliwan Fiesta 2017

Our delegation to Aliwan Fiesta 2017, the Tribu Katbalaugan has officially arrived at Dr. Rafael V. Palma Elementary School in Manila yesterday, April 18, 2017.

Catbalogan City is the only contingent from Eastern Visayas and one of the three for Visayas group of islands among the 13 competing festivals in the national competition of festivals that will be on April 22, 2017 at Quirino Grandstand and Aliw Theater.

Tribu Katbalaugan is offering their performance in thanksgiving for the bountiful blessings Catbalogan City has received through the years through the intercession of our very own patron saint, Señor San Bartolome!

Catbalogan contingent offers thanksgiving mass before leaving for Aliwan Fiesta 2017

Tribu Katbalaugan attends Thanksgiving Mass at St. Bartholomew Church before they leave for Manila for the Aliwan Fiesta 2017.

Gunning for a three-peat championship win this year in the said national competition of festival champions, Aliwan Fiesta is annually organized by the Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) together with Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the cities of Manila and Pasay now on its 15th year since 2003.

This third participation of Catbalogan City through official festival contingent Tribu Katbalaugan after successfully winning for two consecutive years in 2015-2016 and now for a possible hall-of-fame win is highly supported by City Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan who identifies tourism as one of the thrusts of her local administration.

Also supporting the contingent are SM, Robinsons Malls, Robinsons Land Corporation, and the Sinulog Foundation, Inc. (Sinulog Festival) after winning the 2017 street dancing competition and a 1st runner-up finish in the ritual dance competition recently in Cebu City.

Catbalogan Young Peeps up to a free Sports Summer Training Program

Performing on her call to young catbaloganons to engage themselves in sports development, Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan formally opened the 1st Catbalogan City Mayor Step Summer Sports Festival yesterday.

This summer, according to Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan, young Catbaloganons will have a chance of improving their sports skills or discover their talents in sports this summer with the 1st Catbalogan City Mayor Step Summer Sports Festival.

The activity under the City Youth Development Office formally opened yesterday but registration is still going on until next week. Sports clinic will officially start on April 17, 2017.

Eight sports activities are in line for the sports festival namely: volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis, chess, sepak takraw and taekwondo. Except for sepak takraw, all sports events are open to both girls and boys.

Zaldy Ilagan, City Sports Coordinator said that the festival will start with a clinic, which means that those who will register under a certain sports event will undergo basic training of their chosen event, this is for 1st timers while those who are already into this kind of sports will be able to hone their skills farther.

The city government tapped the coaches from the city division of the Department of Education to handle the trainings. Also involved are some volunteers from various sports organization and sports enthusiasts in the city. The city schools superintendent meanwhile hopes that the performance of their athletes at the EVRAA will also improved with this kind of training support from the local government unit.

In her message at the opening, Mayor Step called on the young people to engage themselves in sports. She said “engaging our young people and children in sports is a wonderful way to develop lifelong skills, it builds good character such as teamwork, leadership, responsibility and physical fitness among other advantages.”

The city according to Mayor Step aims to develop full potential of our young constituents through this significant summer sports event. She also acknowledged partners of the city government in this activity and sends her deep appreciation for their continued support in the implementation of city’s various programs. She also said that this activity is the beginning of a sustainable sports development program that the city has lined up for her 2nd term as the Mayor.

Meanwhile, the city youth development officer Dennis Cosmod said that “the LGU has allocated substantial fund for this activity and called on the parents to take advantage of this program and register their children.”

Expected to last for a month this summer, the sports festival will be capped with a mini sports tournament towards the last week of May.

Catbalogan opens EV region’s first floating swimming pool

Launched as the FIRST IN THE REGION, the floating swimming pool or the “swimming pool in the sea” of the situated at supported by the administration of Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan is a unique intervention for budding athletes who has no access to traditional swimming pool but who excels in the said sport.

Taking inspiration from the consistent win at or the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association for the swimming category, Catbalogan City has invested in the said sport and focus on honing athletes to be more competitive through an accessible, available and affordable sports facility.

Present during the said launching last April 10, 2017 were DepEd Regional Director, Dr. Ramir Barberan Uytico and the Executive Director of , Mr. Rupert Ambil II alongside City BlueHost优惠码 Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan and DepEd City Division Superintendent, Mr. along with the barangay officials of Barangay Cagutsan, townsfolk, athletes and coaches under the said division.

The said sports facility is the first in Eastern Visayas region and the second in the Philippines after Panabo City, which was launched during the 2015 Palarong Pambansa.

This initiative is part of the thrust of the administration of Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan to support young athletes to excel at certain social aspects like sports to help in their personal development as well as in community development.
