2019 Manaragat Festival

Two (2) days left and we are off to launch our 16th Manaragat Festival: Month-long City Fiesta Celebration this whole month of August!

Anchored on the theme “KARISYO KATBALOGAN: Celebrating Culture as an Identity, Uniting People through Festivity”, it calls for a convergence among stakeholders and the communities by celebrating our cultural heritage while paying homage and thanksgiving for the intercession of Patron Saint, Señor San Bartolome de Apostol for the bountiful blessings of the sea and for the city through the years.

Manaragat Festival every whole month of August has been institutionalized through City Ordinance No. 2018-015 as Catbalogan City’s official festival and the appropriation of funds for its celebration every year.

Sixteen (16) years ago, the conduct of the month-long fiesta celebration was initiated by then Mayor Coefredo “Tekwa” Uy and officially named as ‘Manaragat’ in 2007 as a response for the lack of cultural identity among Catbaloganons and as a city that started along the banks of Antiao River and relies on the marine resources of Maqueda Bay and Samar Sea as ‘people of the sea’ or ‘manaragat’.

Fast forward to today, Manaragat Festival asserts its relevance as it advocates for environmental protection and cultural preservation that all Catbaloganons must take part in.
