Today is the 164th anniversary of the celebration of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception in Catbalogan.

The Jesuits laid firmly the devotion to the Immaculate Conception of Mary through Saturday Vespers and Holy Rosary but it was the Franciscans who strengthened it when the first cofradia and hermandad was organized in 1856 with Señorita Isabel Congzon as the first Hermana Mayor and under the direction of Fray Martin Olalla de Yepes, OFM (one of the longest-serving Franciscan parish priest of Catbalogan), just two years after Pope Pius IX solemnly defined the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception in 1854.

In 2006, Catbalogan parish celebrated her Sesquicentennial Anniversary with a great festivity.

Viva la Inmaculada Concepcion de Catbalogan!
