Barangay Mercedes blossoms with DAISY Daycare Center

Pursuant to RA 6972 otherwise known as Barangay – Level Total Development and Protection of Children Actenacted last November 23, 1990 by the Eighth Congress of the Philippines, it has been a state policy to defend the right of the children to assistance, including proper care and nutrition, and to provide them with special protection against all forms of neglect, abuse, cruelty, exploitation and other conditions prejudicial to their development.

Since children up to six (6) years of age deserve the best care and attention at the family and community levels, the law underscores the establishment of a day care center in every barangay with a total development and protection of children program instituted in every barangay day care center.

Anchored on this principle, the City Government of Catbalogan has continuously provided assistance to barangays in their programs towards the protection of children. Recently, as one of the priority projects of City Councilor Stephany Uy-Tan being the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee Chair on Women, Children and Family and Committee Chair on Health, Social and Related Services has officially launched one of the Daycare Centers in Barangay Mercedes last November 17, 2012.

The DAISY Daycare Center at Purok 05, Barangay Mercedes was officially opened last Saturday, November 17  and was officiated by Msgr. Leonardo Guadalquiver along with City Councilor Stephany Uy-Tan herself along with the Barangay Chair of Mercedes Hon. Justito “Jojo” Uy and their Barangay Council and Daycare Teachers. The said daycare will be jointly administered by the barangay and the City Social Welfare and Development Office. Regular feeding program and daycare sessions will be conducted at said daycare centers thru the assistance of Barangay Daycare Teachers and from the CSWDO.

Councilor Uy-Tan bared that this project thru the efforts of Barangay Captain Jojo Uy and his Barangay Council is one of her efforts to assist barangays in providing facilities catering to children, adolescents and young people. This special sector is close to her advocacy for she believes that in order to ensure a better future for our society, it must always start with the young for they will be the future of our society.
