Barangays undergoes Basic Training on Disaster and Katarungan Pambarangay

Organized by the City Local Government Operations Office (CLGOO), the barangay of San Roque was one of the barangays who underwent the Basic Training on Disaster and Katarungan Pambarangay from October 09 – 10, 2014.

Mayor Step graced the first day of the said training held at Buri Island, Catbalogan City and shared her enthusiasm on barangay governance as she was once a Barangay Chair at Barangay 04 Poblacion.

“An mga barangay pina-ura” taken from her father then City Mayor Coefredo “Tekwa” Uy flagship also echoes her commitment towards empowering grassroots governance towards the improvement of the whole Catbalogan.

Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Codeof 1991 expanded the scope and powers of the Katarungang Pambarangay or the Barangay Justice System designed not merely to decongest the courts of cases but to address inequalities in access to justice, particularly experienced by marginalized communities.

The barangays, being the basic political unit in the country, is in the most strategic position to facilitate resolution or mediation of community and family disputes, alongside its mandate to deliver basic services.

The city through the CLGOO is set to visit other barangays, which will undergo the same training in the next coming days.
