Catbalogan celebrates 2018 Heritage Month

The City Government of Catbalogan joins the nation in celebrating the whole month of May as National Heritage Month (NHM).

The annual conduct of NHM is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 439 s. 2003, in recognition of the need to create among the people a consciousness, respect, and love for the legacies of Filipino cultural history.

This year’s theme is “Pambansang Pagkakaisa Para sa Pamana” (National Unity for Heritage), which is geared towards highlight the unifying force of a common heritage as a nation and underscore the need for national unity to ensure that such heritage is preserved for the enjoyment of future generations.

In connection, LGU-Catbalogan City through the City Tourism, Culture, Arts and Information Office (CTCAIO) is set to convene the Local Culture and Arts Council (LCAC) in preparation for the upcoming Charter Month on June and the Manaragat Festival on August.

Traysikol or tricycle as Catbalogan City’s main transportation is set to be launched as a mini-festival in June to promote eco-mobility as a sustainable means of getting around and most especially to instill awareness and appreciation among Catbaloganons of traysikol as a source of cultural identity and resilience.

This is Catbalogan’s contribution to heritage preservation in ensuring that current generation respects local culture while future generation gets to enjoy it as a source of pride and identity.
