Catbalogan City attends 3rd ASEAN Mayors’ Forum

In conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN or Association of South East Asian Nations, the Catbalogan City delegation headed by Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan attended the 3rd ASEAN Mayors’ Forum last July 26-27, 2017 in Taguig City organized by The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) and the UCLG ASPAC – United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific as hosted by the City Government of Taguig.

The ASEAN Mayors’ Forum was first held in 2011 in Surabaya, Indonesia and the second in 2015 in Makassar, Indonesia as an initiative to establish regional cooperation among member countries.

The 3rd ASEAN Mayors Forum was aimed at promoting cross-border interactions between local governments, as well as in establishing partnerships for the improvement of the quality of life and environmental sustainability within the region in accordance with the ASEAN Blueprint.

Mayor Step was invited as a speaker for the breakout session on “Empowering Women and Promoting Inclusive Governance” while select department and program heads attended several sessions on local financing, disaster resiliency, mobility, land governance, local economies and other relevant topics as part of the thrust of Mayor Step of being responsive to international trends as well as being proactive to address current challenges.

The said international learning opportunity serves as an alternative learning experience for programmers and implementers of the city government geared towards supporting the international communities, which Catbalogan is part of and whose influence and effect cannot be discounted and disregarded.
