And the game-changer of it all was City Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan who took the challenge of hosting the UCLG ASPAC Conference and Executive Bureau (ExBu) on April 04-07, 2017 in Catbalogan City, the first international conference in the whole Eastern Visayas region.
Nearly 200 foreign delegates were present during the opening ceremony last April 05, 2017 at the newly-constructed convention center of M Grand Royale Resort for a mix of learning and entertainment that were provided by select international and local trailblazers of various fields as well as the support of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP).
During the said day as well was the reading of Catbalogan Declaration by the mayors of cities and municipalities across Asia and the Pacific, which reinforced their commitment of localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda setting the frameworks to address social issues as well as setting the global standard for sustainable urban development.
Catbalogan City only became a member of UCLG ASPAC in 2015 but has already played a significant role in various international commitments, knowledge-sharing opportunities, and taking a firm stand on global concerns.
