Catbalogan City hosts first ever Regional MOVE Summit

In line with the 18-day Campaign to End All Violence Against Women (VAW), Catbalogan City hosted the first ever Regional MOVE Summit last November 26, 2018 at Casa Cristina Hotel.

Said regional event was supported by MOVE Philippines, DSWD Regional Office 8, RIACAT, Plan Philippines and other partners with the participants from MOVE Eastern Samar composed of Oras, San Julian and Borongan City while MOVE Catbalogan was represented by male barangay chairs along with officers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and from the Philippine National Police.

The 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) is observed annually from November 25 to December 12 to raise awareness among all stakeholders that VAW is a public issue of national concern. It supports the Philippine Government’s goal to protect the human rights of women and its commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence.

The Inter-Agency Council on Violence Against Women (IACVAWC) adopted the theme “VAW-free community starts with Me” which elevates the campaign to positive advocacy as it enjoins everyone to pursue the common vision of a community free from violence against women and girls, and highlights what can be done to achieve such.

Supported and led by City Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan, the purpose of the regional hosting was the affirm the city’s commitment in stopping violence against women and children with men as partners in this advocacy.
