Catbalogan fortifies gulayan sa paaralan program for Nutrition Month 2017

As part of the 2017 Nutrition Month celebration led by the City Nutrition Council, a launching was held at Catbalogan III Central Elementary School last July 10, 2017 that highlighted the Division of Catbalogan City’s Gulayan sa Paaralan Program (GPP) as assisted by the City Agriculture’s Office.

The said school-based feeding program is aimed at establishing small vegetable farm within the school premises in all schools in Catbalogan City that will be used for supplementary feeding to all identified school pupils in order to improve their nutritional status thru a bio-intensive gardening (BIG) system.

BIG is described as an ecological approach to gardening, which makes the best use of available natural resources within the locality and does not rely on any chemical inputs.

As led by no less than City Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan who is also the chair of the nutrition council, support to this program is anchored on her thrust of supporting disadvantaged young population thru a holistic development.

The conduct of this year’s nutrition month celebration is anchored on the theme “Healthy Diet, Gawing Habit – For Life!”, which calls for the consumption of healthier foods and discourages Filipinos from eating unhealthy diets.
