Catbalogan hosts island-wide forum on BBL

Joining the national wave of discussion on Bangsamoro Basic Law, the Bantay Bayanihan -Samar initiated the BBL Forum last June 5, 2015 held at New Maqueda Bay Hotel.

Present during the forum as resource speakers are Hon. Salem Demuna, Commissioner, National Commission on Muslim Affairs and Mr. Paul Paraguya, Member, National Peace Council.

Catbalogan City Mayor Hon. Stephany Uy Tan welcomed the participants. In her speech she emphasized the need to involve oneself in the discussion of BBL.

“By being aware, we become part of the issue, and when we become part of the issue, we can also become part of the solution, and the best way to become part of the solution is to take a stand – a strong passionate stand based on facts, not just hearsays, a stand that is derived from weighing the pros and cons of this issue and not the prevailing biases of the times.”

A total of 120 individuals attended the forum. Among those in attendance are representatives from media, religious groups, PNP, philippine army, academe, youth, community organizations, civic society organizations, communication groups, student councils and women’s groups.(Photos by Michael Balan)
