Launched as the FIRST IN THE REGION, the floating swimming pool or the “swimming pool in the sea” of the Deped Catbalogan City Divisionsituated at Barangay Cagutsan Sierra supported by the administration of Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan is a unique intervention for budding athletes who has no access to traditional swimming pool but who excels in the said sport.
Taking inspiration from the consistent win at EVRAA or the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association for the swimming category, Catbalogan City has invested in the said sport and focus on honing athletes to be more competitive through an accessible, available and affordable sports facility.
Present during the said launching last April 10, 2017 were DepEd Regional Director, Dr. Ramir Barberan Uytico and the Executive Director of Move.PH, Mr. Rupert Ambil II alongside City Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan and DepEd City Division Superintendent, Mr. Cristito Eco along with the barangay officials of Barangay Cagutsan, townsfolk, athletes and coaches under the said division.
The said sports facility is the first in Eastern Visayas region and the second in the Philippines after Panabo City, which was launched during the 2015 Palarong Pambansa.
This initiative is part of the thrust of the administration of Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan to support young athletes to excel at certain social aspects like sports to help in their personal development as well as in community development.
