Catbalogan receives regional evacuation complex from DPWH

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) turned over today, September 25, 2019 to the city government the regional evacuation complex, one of the firsts in the region.

Said complex is composed of several buildings: 1-storey toilet and bathroom building; 3-storey laundry and drying building with water tanks; 2-storey office and infirmary building with pharmacy; 1-storey generator room and pump room; 1-storey garbage disposal building; and 2-storey accommodation building with dining room, food preparation/dishwashing area, communication room, breastfeeding and storage.

Total cost of the evacuation complex is P36,110,000.00 from the DPWH with no financial counterpart from the city government apart from the land provided.

The said complex will provide emergency service and public assistance before, during and immediately after disasters/calamities to reduce if not totally prevent casualties and also to reduce physical impact that may affect the health of the residents.

Construction of said complex is in response to climate change adaptation and mitigation program of the national office in line with the compliance called for under Republic Act 10121 also known as Philippine Disaster Act of 2010.

Present during the turn over were representatives from DPWH regional and district offices as well as from Office Of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Office 8 and symbolic key was received by no less than City Mayor Dexter Uy.
