2012, an invitation was received by the Local Youth Development Council of Catbalogan City for a scheduled ship tour on June 27, 2012 inside the USNS Mercy (T-AH 19), one of the two modern hospital ships in the US Navy.

The Local Youth Development Council (LYDC) of Catbalogan City is the sole advisory council in all matters related to young people. It is composed of Sangguniang Kabataan Chairs of the different barangays of the city; youth-led and youth-serving organizations; school student councils; and several community organizations.

Facilitating the trip and the group of the Catbalogan contingent were First Councilor Stephany Uy-Tan and Liga ng mga Barangay Federation President Edward M. Uy. Sangguniang Kabataan City Federation President Dexter M. Uy were part of the group along with members of Waray-Waray Youth Advocates, students of Samar State University, Samar College and several young people.

Continuous involvement of young people in various matters is very evident not only in Catbalogan City but in different organizations and agencies here and abroad.
