As part of the 2017 Women’s Month celebration, Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan convened the City Gender and Development (GAD) Council on March 22, 2017 to update all council members as to the implementation of various programs, projects and activities.
Members of the GAD Council are concerned city departments as well as representatives from the academe, security sector, women’s organizations, young people, barangays, faith-based organizations, civil society groups, and marginalized sectors like PWD, senior citizens, and others.
Discussed as well during the said council meeting was the identified proposals for 2018 for consideration of the whole council in preparation for the budgeting process to commence this 2nd quarter of 2017.
The creation of GAD Council is anchored on Republic Act No. 9710, otherwise known as the Magna Carta of Women (MCW) wherein all local government unites shall adopt gender mainstreaming as a strategy to promote women’s human rights and eliminate gender discrimination in their systems, structures, policies, programs , processes, and procedures.
This year’s Women’s Month celebration is anchored on the theme “WE Make Change Work for Women”, which emphasizes that women should be active drivers in bringing about positive changes, and that they should also reap from development efforts.
