City Health Office extends medical services to fire survivors

We are glad to have extended medical assistance to the survivors of the recent fire incident in Brgy. 06 Poblacion. The families are currently housed at Samar National School as their temporary refuge after the unfortunate incident.

The City Health Office will continue to provide medical services to those affected individuals and families.

Step Up for Health: Barangay Outreach continues to roll out this summer

Free circumcision, health consultation, dental services, provision of maintenance medications for hypertension and diabetes patients and immunization services were provided to the residents of Barangay Health Station Rama, Catbalogan City last April 11, 2018.

The City Health Office was in full force and delighted to have extended these services to the people of BHS Rama.

Catbalogan Women’s Congress celebrates womanhood

More than 1,000 Catbaloganon attended the Women’s Congress held today, March 22, 2018 at Provincial Covered Court as part of the 2018 Women’s Month Celebration organized by the City Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System.

The one-day affair involved discussion on relevant topics concerning women such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Federalism, which was discussed by Atty. Ryan Legisniana Estevez who is currently the Undersecretary for the House of Representatives under the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office of the Office of the President along with Ms. Maria Marjorie Jaramilla of PDP-Laban in Region 8.

Free services were also offered such as blood pressure monitoring, diabetes screening, ferrous sulphate supplementation, which were offered by the City Health Office; family planning services by the Provincial Department of Health (DOH); as well as free services offered by TESDA, Philippine Red Cross – Catbalogan City, Western Samar Chapter, Social Security System, and other government agencies.

An oath-taking among members of the Local Council of Women was also conducted during the said congress led by no less than City Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan, who is a strong advocate of women empowerment.

Mayor Step encouraged everyone especially fellow women to be strong partners, not just of their respective families but of the community as well further emphasizing the important role that women play in our society.

She further emphasized that this activity was part of her commitment to Catbaloganons of bringing in closer the social services that the local government is mandated to deliver to all people through her “City Hall at your Doorstep” program.

Catbalogan Buntis Congress gathers for Women’s Month celebration

Almost 200 pregnant mothers flocked Barangay Guinsorongan Covered Court this morning, March 21, 2018 for the Buntis Congress in celebration of the 2018 Women’s Month led organized by this city government through the Catbalogan Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System.

Led by no less Catbalogan City Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan, she emphasized her administration’s commitment of delivering accessible and available basic services to all Catbaloganons anchored on her “City Hall at your Doorstep” program.

Before giving out buntis kits that contained essential items for mothers, Mayor Step strongly encouraged the mothers to avail of the free maternal services being offered at the City Health Office, which banners one of her pillars of development dubbed as “Serbisyo panlawas papakusgon”.

Attendees of the said congress were also able to avail of free manicure, pedicure, massage and haircut courtesy of TESDA Samar; free seedlings were also distributed by the City Agriculture’s Office; free negosyo assistance service courtesy of DTI.Samar; live birth registration through the City Civil Registrar’s Office; orientation on prenatal services, expanded program on immunization and postnatal services by the City Health Office; and an orientation on responsible parenthood and family planning courtesy of the City Population Office.

Anchored on this year’s Women’s Month celebration, the theme “We Make Change Work for Women” highlights the empowerment of women as active contributors to and claimholders of development as well as anchored on the commitment of “Malasakit at Pagbabago” or True Compassion and Real Change.

Blood Donation for First Quarter of 2018

This regular program is geared towards ensuring the availability of fresh blood products for the utilization of those who are in immediate need of blood transfusion.

Catbalogan wins at Health Regional Awards

Catbalogan City Health Office won the Manuel L. Quezon Award of Excellence and Philippine Package of Essential Non-Communicable Disease Program (PHILPEN) Award during the Recognition of Regional Health Achievers on December 8, 2017 at Patio Victoria Resort, San Jose, Tacloban City.

Catbalogan City is the only LGU in thr Province of Samar who bagged the Manuel L. Quezon Award of Excellence for the National TB Program.

PHILPEN is an award given to LGU who has excellence in Non-Communicable Disease Program.

“Malipayon ngan nagpapasalamat kita hini nga award. Usa ini nga pagpakita nga ha pagkaurusa, damo it aton makakabuta. Damo nga salamat kan Mayor Step hit iya paghatag hin duon hit Serbisyo Panlawas” Dra. Tizon exclaimed.

Mayor Step immediately sent her congratulations to the entire City Health Office upon knowing the good news.

Recognition of Regional Health Achievers is annual award given by the Department of Health Region VIII to Local Government Units with excellent implementation of various health programs.

Shellfish Advisory from BFAR issued for Cambatutay Bay in Samar

The City Health Office through Shellfish Bulletin No. 36 Series of 2017 of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources hereby announces the total ban of all shellfish coming from the various seas around Catbalogan including that of Maqueda Bay.
