City convenes tourism, culture and arts councils

Two (2) back-to-back council meetings were called today, September 19, 2019 at Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall by Catbalogan City Mayor Dexter Uy as part of its thrust of a participative, transparent and empowering local governance.

City Ordinance No. 2011-004 otherwise known as the “Tourism Code of Catbalogan City” mandates the creation of the City Tourism Council (CTC) while City Ordinance No. 2015-014 mandates the creation of the Local Culture and Arts Council (LCAC).

The CTC discussed on the planned programs, projects and activities for 2020 as well as on the deliverables before 2019 ends. It was shared that the city is gearing towards completing its Tourism Development Plan (TDP), which will serve as an implementing guide for the current administration on the priorities and potential sites and attractions in the city that will be developed and protected.

Following after the CTC meeting was the council meeting of the Local Culture and Arts Council (LCAC) that reviewed on the recently-concluded 16th Manaragat Festival and solicited recommendations and suggestions to further improve the conduct of the said month-long festival in the coming years. Revealed in the meeting were the concept and themes for next year’s Manaragat Festival, which is said to highlight the unique folk dances not just in Catbalogan City but from the entirety of Samar.

Mayor Dexter was personally present during the two meetings along with City Councilor Stephany Uy-Tan who chairs the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Education, Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Both of these programs are being managed by the City Tourism, Culture, Arts and Information Office (CTCAIO) who carries the brand of “The City of Captivating Contrasts” or simply “Captivating Catbalogan”, which sums up the unique contrasts found in the city that are unique, endearing, and truly captivating.
