City distributes education assistance to PWD students

Last Saturday, December 12, 2020 the City Government of Catbalogan through the Catbalogan City Social Welfare & Development Office (CSWDO) rolled out its educational assistance to 168 students who are persons with disabilities (PWD).Each student received P1,480.00 as part of the city’s educational assistance taken from the 1% of the total annual budget allocated exclusively for senior citizens and PWDs.

This educational assistance program has been a regular program of the city government as strongly supported by City Mayor Dexter Uy and his administration.Under the CSWD Office, an established Person with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) coordinates all PWD-related programs, projects and activities of the city government ensuring not only representation but active participation.

Persons with disabilities (PWDs), according the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities, include those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.

All opportunities must be afforded to persons with disabilities not because they are at a disadvantage but mainly because it is their human right.
