Plan International Phils. partners with City GAD Council for 12-12-12
In the Philippines, trafficking in persons is one of the emerging human rights issues against human being more specifically against children. The Department of Social Welfare and Development estimates that more than 1,000 children and 400 adult women are being trafficked every year in the Philippines. Data reported by various organizations revealed that more girl children are trafficked for domestic work and sexual purposes, while boy-children are into hazardous forms of child labor. Human Trafficking exposes children to violence, sexual abuse and violate their rights to
be protected, grow up in a safe and healthy family environment and have access to education.
Anent to this, the City Gender and Development Council is set to commemorate December 12 as the International Day Against Trafficking in partnership with the Plan International Philippines through the City Social Welfare and Development Office. With the theme “Komunidad at Pamahalaan Magkaisa, Human Trafficking ay Wakasan Na“, an activity has been scheduled on December 12, 2012 at 08:00 in the morning at Samar National School (SNS) Social Hall, Catbalogan City, Samar.
The activity is aimed to heighten public awareness on Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law and other issues on gender-based violence in the province as well as an opportunity to solicit commitments from partners in the advocacy.
