City Government of Catbalogan joins the Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders in celebrating the Rare Disease Day 2017
The City Government of Catbalogan joins the Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders in celebrating the Rare Disease Day 2017 on February 28, 2017.
With the release of Presidential Proclamation No. 1989 on February 8, 2010 declaring the last week of February as ‘National Rare Disease Week’, the Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, Inc. (PSOD) has taken the initiative in coordinating public and stakeholder awareness on the promotion and protection of the welfare of Filipinos with rare or orphan disorders.
This year’s slogan is “With Research Possibilities are Limitless”, which is a call upon researchers, universities, students, companies, policy makers and clinicians to do more research and to make them aware of the importance of research for the rare disease community.
Republic Act No. 10747 or the Rare Disease Act of the Philippines was signed into law in March 2016. The law seeks to “improve the access of patients diagnosed to have a rare disease, or patient highly suspected of having a rare disease, to comprehensive medical care and to timely health information to help them cope with their condition.”
