City turns-over tilapia fingerlings to beneficiaries

In an effort to assist fisherfolks in their livelihood as well as to sustain the production of tilapia in the city, some 72,500 fingerlings were distributed by City Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan with the assistance of

the Office of the City Agriculture last February 05, 2014.

The following were the recipients and the respective number of fingerlings received:

– Prof. Renato Diocton, SSU Mercedes Campus: 6,000
– Ronnie Cabreras, Brgy. Payao: 3,000
– Father Helera, Brgy. Silanga: 3,000
– San Roque Lagoon, Brgy. San Roque: 6,000
– Archie Tan, Brgy. New Mahayag: 9,000
– Ricardo Flores, Brgy. New Mahayag: 6,000
– Rex Gamba, Brgy. New Mahayag: 9,000
– Leo P. Ladrera, Brgy. Old Mahayag: 3,000
– Romy Cadano, Brgy. San Vicente: 9,000
– Raul Colocado, Brgy. New Mahayag: 3,000
– Cawayan People’s Organization, Brgy. Cawayan: 6,000
– City Nursery Demo Farm, Brgy. San Vicente: 9,500

Mayor Step turned over several fingerlings at the City Plaza, which was followed by an orientation conducted by the City Agriculture’s Office. She also personally visited the fish ponds of the several recipients at Barangays Payao and San Vicente.

The City’s Nursery & Demo Farm which was located at Brgy. San Vicente was also visited by Mayor Step along with staff from City Agriculture. Said demo farm houses eggplants, tomatoes and other agricultural products aside from the new fish pond intended for the new fingerlings.

The initiative of the current administration is anchored on the commitment to address food shortage as well as to assist families economic stability through sustainable livelihood programs.
