City undergoes Urban & Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue Training

Members of the city’s emergency response team under the Systematic Technical Emergency Preparedness – Unified Program (STEP-UP), along with volunteers from various civic groups and agencies joined the seven – day Urban and Collapsed Structures Search and Rescue (UCSSAR) Training which started yesterday September 16, 2013 here in Catbalogan.

The wide range of courses to be offered during the UCSSAR Training is applicable for responding to earthquakes, urban flooding, vehicular accidents and other types of disasters that may occur in the urban areas.

The participants have been informed of the said training during an orientation conducted by the OCD as early as July 22, 2013. This was to give them ample time to prepare themselves for the strenuous exercises and challenges.

Lead trainer, Dr. Arsenio Colaba stressed the importance of physical fitness not just to survive the training itself but also to be effective despite the harsh and extreme conditions
that they might find themselves in when in the act of rescuing another life.
