DTI opens Negosyo Center in Catbalogan City

Department of Trade and Industry – Samar opened its second Negosyo Center with the launching of a local branch here in Catbalogan last July 3, Friday. It opened a day after the City of Calbayog opened its own.

The ceremony was attended by Mayor Hon. Stephany Uy-Tan, Vice Mayor Art Sherwin Gabon, DTI Provincial Director Meilou Cinco-Macabare, DTI Regional Director Cynthia R. Nierras, SCCI President Mr. Ariel D. Donceras, City Department Heads, associations, and the business sector.

Macabare said Negosyo Centers aim for the development of the countryside by boosting its Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The centers would not only ease the process for acquisition of government-issued permits and certificates but would also serve as an advisory entity and provide access to financial institutions for MSMEs’ loan applications.

An MSME Development Council is to be formed and to be comprised of both public and private individuals. The council will oversee the operations of the Negosyo Center and ensure that it fulfills its mandate to the people.

The creation of Negosyo Centers is in compliance of Republic Act No. 10644 also known as the “Go Negosyo Act” authored by Senator Paolo Benigno “BAM” Aquino IV and approved on July 15, 2014.
