Island folks people undergo economic programming workshop

Committed towards ensuring a responsive local government, the City Government of Catbalogan with the assistance of the Department of Trade and Industry – Samar (DTI.Samar) conducted a community consultation and LRED workshop last July 18, 2017 at Buri Baras Beach among sectoral groups from Barangays Cabugawan and Estaka.

LRED or Local and Regional Economic Development was introduced by GTZ, which introduces a systematic series of workshops wherein key stakeholders and institutions work jointly to create a unique advantage for the locality and its firms, tackle market failures, remove bureaucratic obstacles for local businesses and strengthen the competitiveness of local firms.

The City Tourism, Culture, Arts and Information Office (CTCAIO) and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO) assisted the said workshop, which fleshed out the issues of the community, the solutions identified by themselves, the city’s upcoming projects, and the sustainability of said projects as part of a holistic program.

Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan and her local administration has identified Buri Island as part of the priority development areas and as included in the City’s Local Development Investment Plan (LDIP) which specifies investable and implementable economic development plans, programs and activities.
