Local Culture and Arts Council convenes

The newly-reorganized Local Culture and Arts Council (LCAC) of Catbalogan City was recently convened by City Mayor Dexter Uy to discuss on the preparations for 2019 Manaragat Festival and for the 2020 plans relative to culture and arts development.

Facilitated by City Tourism, Culture, Arts and Information Office, revealed during the said meeting were the month-long theme that calls for unity in festivity and the cultural theme, which is set to highlight the fishing gears used by fisherfolks as an effort to promote sustainable fishing and cultural preservation.

The cultural presentations and the festival contingents will be coming from the new ten (10) districts under the DepEd’s Catbalogan City Division including the eight (8) secondary schools and three (3) tertiary schools in the city.

This year will be 16th conduct of the Manaragat Festival of Catbalogan City, which started in 2004 as a month-long festivity first organized by then Mayor Coefredo “Tekwa” Uy later officially named as ‘manaragat’ in 2007 to incorporate all marine products that abound Maqueda Bay and was institutionalized in 2018 through City Ordinance No. 2018-015 as an effort to cement the importance of celebrating the origins of our people as ‘manaragat’ or people of the sea.
