Mayor Step delivers her city report at Sierra Islands

City Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan delivered her State of the City Address (SOCA) last July 03, 2017 at Barangay Rama, the biggest of the seven island barangays collectively called ‘Sierra Islands’ located more than an hour away by boat from mainland city.

“Ha Isla Naman! Pagpahamtang 2017” is part of her continuing efforts to bring in closer to the people the local government as well as to deliver social services right at the doorsteps of her constituents.

Gleaned from the report were the significant developments in terms of economic growth, consistent assistance to key sectors of the society, improving health consciousness and standards, deepening social interventions, and strengthening local partnerships and international linkaging as well as major awards and recognitions received for exemplary achievements by the city.

A ‘People’s Caravan’ followed after the SOCA that brought several government services like medical/dental mission, live birth registration, mass wedding, buntis congress, legal services, agricultural and veterinary services, and other trainings and orientations for the barangay folks of Sierra Islands.

Mayor Step ended her SOCA speech with a call for action and a call for unity and cooperation as she quipped “Dire ba an Catbalogan in dire la ha amon nga mga opisyales han Ciudad? Deri ba dapat nga an pagpakaupay han aton syudad in ginkakaurusahan naton ngatanan? Deri ba responsabilidad naton ngatanan an pag-uswag han aton hinigugma nga syudad?”

Indeed, the betterment or the downfall of any society rests not solely on its officials or duty bearers but should largely be on the active and meaningful involvement of the people themselves. What the administration of Mayor Step strives for is not a perfect society but a better Catbalogan anchored on inclusivity, transparency, and empowering local government and leadership.

And in her own words “So as we take flight to greater heights, LET US HOLD HANDS TOGETHER AND STEP FORWARD TOGETHER!”
