Mayor Step distributes relief goods to Northern Barangays

Through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), City Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan gave out relief goods to families and households of Barangays Socorro, Lagundi, Silanga, Payao, San Roque, Cabugawan, and Pupua last December 07, 2013.

Although the city was spared from the calamity brought by Super Typhoon Yolanda, The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Catbalogan City declared the city as under “State of Calamity” through Resolution No. 2013 – 83 dated November 11, 2013. With the difficulty of resources and the source of livelihood of many families, the current administration has felt the need to provide assistance to assure the constituents of the presence of the government in these trying times.

The following number of relief packs containing two kilos of rice and several canned goods were distributed at the following barangays:

– Barangay Socorro: 325 relief packs

– Barangay Lagundi: 205 relief packs

– Barangay Silanga: 1,000 relief packs

– Barangay Payao: 395 relief packs

– Barangay San Roque: 350 relief packs

– Barangay Cabugawan: 250 relief packs

– Barangay Pupua: 444 relief packs

Although relatively small, the said initiative was aimed at only assisting households with the current calamity. Although spared from the super typhoon, Catbaloganons have more to thank of. Mayor Step further assured that all families will receive said assistance regardless of political affiliation. “Waray dulaw, waray pula, waray pinulitika ha yana nga panahon han krisis.” she said.

City Councilor Coefredo Tekwa Uy was also present during the relief distribution at the said barangay in support of Mayor Step’s thrust of “An mga Barangay Pina-ura”.
