SP conducts public hearing on proposed Market Code

Considered as one of long overdue legislations affecting the economic capabilities of our city, The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Catbalogan City moves another step closer to approving the Catbalogan City Market Code with the recently-held Public Hearing last May 15, 2014 at the heart of the city’s market operations.

Facilitated by City Economic Enterprise & Public Utilities Officer Mr. Vic Pagarao, the said hearing was attended by market stallholders, vendors and other concerned citizens.

Proponents and Committee Members of the Sanggunian were present, namely: Councilors Junjun Perez, Max Pescos, Renante Aquino, Nanette Jasmin, and Tekwa Uy.

Expressing her support to the movement, Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan was personally present to inform the public of the importance of the said legislation, which movement started during her term Liga Vice President in 2007.

It is the purpose of the Code to make the public market as a responsive and effective instrument of public service as well as a dynamic and viable enterprise to strengthen the financial capabilities of the city.

Contributing to local development, the said market code is aimed at developing, regulating, and standardizing the market systems and to professionalize the market services.

With the said code, the local government may be able to systematically and sustainably develop and improve the market as a structure and a system whether locally funded or through the help of investors.
