Two schools in Catbalogan City win big in national awarding

Catbalogan III Central School for the Elementary Level and Silanga National High School for the Secondary Level were the two national awardees as Best Implementing Schools – Mega Category of the 2019 Brigada Eskwela of the Department of Education during the National Awarding Ceremony held yesterday, November 28, 2019 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.

Categorized as mega school for both elementary and secondary divisions is when number of teachers are more than 51 as mentioned in the 2019 Brigad Eskwela Implementing Guidelines.

The Brigada Eskwela is the National Schools Maintenance Week, which aims to brings together all education stakeholders to participate and contribute their time, effort, and resources to prepare public school facilities for the opening of the school year in June.

Selecting the best implementing schools for the 2019 Brigada Eskwela were scrutinized with the following criteria, namely: Scope of Work (35%), Diverse Volunteer Participation (25%), Generated Resources (15%), Alignment to Brigada Eskwela Theme (10%), Creativity and Innovation (10%), and Increment of Resources and Volunteers (5%).

Moreover, schools were required to implement several programs such as School Safety and Preparedness; Stakeholder Engagement; Provision of Kits (Emergency Kits/bags for Students, Learner’s Kit, Emergency Kit for School, First Aid Kit, Teacher’s Emergency Kit, Health and Hygiene Kit); Comprehensive Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) Program; and Learning Resource Centers.

Present during the awarding were the school heads of the two schools; representatives from the DepEd, Schools Division of Catbalogan City; Brigada Eskwela Coordinators; Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) representatives; Samar Multi-purpose cooperative_SAMICO and Overseas Filipino Council International (OFCI) representatives as major partners; Barangay Chair of Barangay Silanga, Vergel Ebron and representing The City Government of Catbalogan no less than City Mayor Dexter Uy.

“First time ini han Catbalogan nga makakuha hini nga national level nga award ngan mega category pa gud,” Mayor Dexter shares.

He thanked everyone who helped in different ways for the success of the 2019 Brigada Eskwela in Catbalogan City and further extended his appreciation to the schools and partners for bringing pride and honor to the city.
