Urban Poor Children to be targeted in new UNDP Project

The City Government conducted an orientation and consultation on July 9, 2012 at the Cocina de Cabral regarding the implementation of their latest project in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The project, which is called MDG-FACES or Family-based Actions for Children and their Environs in the Slums, aims to achieve UNDP’s Millenium Development Goals or MDG by giving assistance to urban poor children.

The said project shall be implemented in Purok 6 of Brgy. 03 Poblacion. Twenty (20 ) girls and 20 boys living the city’s slum area were selected as beneficiaries. A distinct feature of this project is the special role given to urban poor mothers of identifying the issues and needs confronting their children. This paves the way for quick-response solutions that are given at the household, city and national levels.

The project’s key features and background were presented by City Local Government Operations Officer Jose Obrero, the Project Focal Person. In attendance were the members of the City Core Team consisting of Family, Women and Children Committee Chair, Councilor Stephany Uy-Tan; City Administrator Herminia Cabral, City Planning and Development Officer Arnaldo Aroza and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Nida Aroza.

Also present were members of the Technical Working Groups (TWG) in both the city and barangay level. The members of the City TWG (CTWG) are City Agriculturist Ruth Dasal, City Health Officer Dr. Gerarda Tizon, City Cooperatives Officer Vivencio Eslopor II, ABC Federation President Edward Uy, SK Federation President Dexter Uy, OIC-City Schools Division Superintendent Edita S. De Veyra and PNP Chief Avelino Doncillo. The Barangay TWG on the other hand, is composed of Brgy. 3 Chairman Orr Montibon, the barangay councilors and SK Chairman Kevin Joseph Tille. A daycare worker, barangay nutrition scholar and barangay health worker are also included in the BTWG.
